I’ve done 4 TEDxTalks, a lot of speaking gigs, and been on 100+ shows (podcasts, YouTube channels, interviews). And there are lots of people who either want to do these things or who have ideas, experiences or content that would be valuable on such platforms.
There are certain elements that separate those who get to share their stuff from people who (might) have good stuff but don’t get their chance.
Here’s a secret: it has very little to do with your ability to actually give a speech.
You read that correctly.
The speaking business is not about giving speeches.
The ideas industry is not about having the best insights.
Modeling ain’t about being pretty.
Book publishers don't really care how good your writing is.
You get the idea.
Now, if you happen to be good at the thing once you get your feet in the door, great — but that’s NOT what gets you into the room.
There’s a whole other game within the game that determines who even gets a chance to show their game.
Master that, and you can get on any stage you wish.
I explain all of this in episode #415: TEDx Talks: How To Get Chosen To Give Yours
