I'll tell you a very simple principle, the one most responsible for whatever level of success I have achieved thus far in life:
Show The Fuck Up.
Be present. Consistently. Then do your work, consistently. There is no award for it, no parade and no fanfare comes with it. What happens is that the slow drip, drip, drip of consistency soon fills up the sink and it overflows and floods the room.
There are very few with the patience and discipline to stick through all that slow dripping. Many want to turn on the faucet full-blast (have it all happen just like that), or shut off the water because they get bored or impatient (it'll never happen; let's be realistic). Most likely, you will be one of these.
Or, you can keep showing up, quietly getting it done. And before you know it, the neighbors downstairs are knocking, informing you that their ceiling is leaking.
