I read that the hardest thing about training as a distance runner is knowing when to stop running. When you've done enough for the day. Learning how to not go the extra mile this time.
Marathon training has taught me that lesson for real. Reading it is one thing. Living it is another.
Every time over the last few months when I've pushed myself to run further than I'd planned, it hurt me. Unnecessary injuries. Lost training days. All due to not knowing when enough is enough.
So, how do you know when it's time to keep going versus when it's time to walk away? How do you know when to use one principle and when to use the opposite principle?
Wisdom. Which can only be acquired through experience.
