What You're Really Seeking When You're Seeking Advice

You just want someone to tell you to do what you already know you need to do.

When people ask me for advice, usually their answer is right there in the question. I want to get really good at basketball and I know it will take a lot of work and practice, Dre, but I'm just looking for some advice. Any tips you can give me?

I like use the million-dollar response on people, a form of the Socratic Method: If I offered you $1 million to answer you own question, to the best of your ability, what's the answer? This question, I've found, has a 100% success rate in predicting my answer.

I aim to empower people, not make myself the bottleneck between you and the results you want. You already know, 98% of the time, exactly what you need to do. Stop asking for advice and tips. Take action. If it's the wrong action, it will be obvious and you will then have 1) a story to tell and 2) a clear answer on what not to do, eliminating some options. Do this enough and you'll have a wealth of knowledge (which comes from experience, which comes from failure -- this is why many people lack experience. They're afraid of failing and use the advice-asking as an excuse to do nothing) and a path to what you want.

That's my advice.
