I heard a speaker say the answer to this question is "Procrastination" (get it?). I laughed. And he's right.
We all know what we need to do, should do, could do, would do... and many of those things remain undone while we talk and think about them. The ability to get yourself to take action and get things done even when you don't really feel like it is a skill that will get a lot of things done for you.
It's nothing more than energy.
And energy is hard to have when you don't have a real reason to be excited about doing things.
We are only excited about doing things when we see a positive, pleasurable result that comes from doing them.
We only have a positive outlook on an action when it's tied to something we really want.
We can only tie actions to things we really want WHEN WE KNOW WHAT WE REALLY WANT.
