Every couple of weeks, the management at my building sends out an email, reminding us of the community rules.

❌ No podcast or photo shoot productions without management permission.

❌ No dogs at the swimming pool.

❌ Two guests allowed per resident at the amenities.

There’s nothing crazy about the rules. Rules need to exist in life; without law, there is no order.

But... There’s a problem.

Management has no process or tools for enforcing said rules.

The rules are posted up on the walls, and they send out email reminders, but nobody actually enforces the rules.

Women bring their teacup Yorkies to the pool all the time.

People block off areas of the amenities and record podcasts.

The building has great views; it’s a great place for highly-produced photo shoots.

I see people doing these things all the time, and management does nothing.

Nothing.

Except send out emails.

Which is why the “rules” get ignored.

Nobody respects them.

Do you know what you call a rule that is not enforced?

A “suggestion.”

Here’s what that has to do with you.

You have rules that you’ve set for yourself.

You’re going to write that book.

Going to make more money in your business this year.

You’re going to stop bullshitting and finally do XYZ that you’ve been putting off for the last nine months.

But you’re just like my building management. Your rules have no teeth.

Although you have set these rules and have these desires, you have no process for enforcing them, or forcing yourself to abide by them.

Therefore, what you really have are suggestions, wishes, and hopes.

And no results.
