A Boss is one who guarantee we gon' eat. - Rick Ross
Leadership is not only about setting up your people to win and flourish. It's about taking away their worst fears and making sure they don't lose.
We all have fears and worst-case-scenario visions of stuff that we get involved in. A leader is a person who can allay those fears and relax people's nerves. This relaxation of someone's "inner game" allows them to unlock and access their "outer game" -- the skills and talents that make them good.
As the safety net, the leader of the group, you represent to them that everything will be OK, no matter what. You represent the knowledge that if something goes horribly wrong, you'll be there to bail them out (think a basketball player who scores 20 points in the 4th quarter or comes up big in a decisive playoff game). All the pressure is off of them and on placed on your shoulders, and that's the way you like it. And despite all this, you still come through much more often than you don't.
Assume the mindset that you're the last line of defense. That whatever happens, you got us. You got this. And your mind will start to deliver the ideas and attitude that will lead to just that.
