Leaders don't wait for instructions.
Doesn't mean they're always right with the moves and decisions they make -- but when it's not right, the next move is to fix it. And you learn as you go along. 90% of learning is in the doing. But why am I wasting time saying this, you know all this stuff, right?
So why are you still waiting for someone to tell you what to do?
Some people wait for instructions because that way they are off the hook for anything that goes wrong. Wasn't my fault! I just did what you told me to do? Please tell me you've never uttered these statements. One thing that scares humans very quickly is the possibility (not the actual reality) of criticism. I've seen it make cowards out of men. So they wait for someone else to take the lead and before they know it, they're stuck there as this passive attitude becomes a habit.
You know anyone like that? Surely it's not you.
Your challenge may just be that you don't know what to do. Of course you don't! You haven't done anything yet. And you'll never know until you do it.
Oh, you're seeking advice? More information? Need to think about it (which actually means you're going to do nothing and seek advice again in a few months)?
The question you have to ask and answer yourself is this: Do you want to lead or be led?
