Self-Empowerment, And The People Who Refuse It

Back when I first started publishing on YouTube, sometimes viewers would get mad at me.

For example, someone would ask me a question that was strictly of the how-do-I-do-it variety. I would answer, but instead of telling them exactly what to do, I'd apply more of a Socratic Method to answering: Ask a question that would make the questioner think, decide, and act on his own accord.

This is a method of empowering someone who, prior to asking, may not have been aware of said power to figure things out for himself. What I found out was that not everyone was happy to be empowered.

Thanks for nothing, Dre.

Why can't you just give me a straight answer?

I just need help I just need advice I don't know what to do, I don't know what to do, I don't know what to do!!!

Many people, subconsciously, want to live their entire lives being held by the hand. I do want to empower myself -- just tell me exactly what to do now and then I'll get to that later.

It doesn't work that way.

Self-empowerment is anything but convenient. It doesn't happen when you want it to and it doesn't come wrapped in neat little package for you to open when you have a free minute. It is taken -- usually at a time when you least would like to take it. Which is why many people never take it.

My goal when I write, record a video, or speak, is to empower people to no longer need me. There is so much information in our world now that people seem to be addicted to it. But the internet has only been ubiquitous for less than 15 years. How did people EVER figure things out and decide to take action before? Some of the people I hear from in 2015 would be paralyzed in that world.

Don't allow all the information out there to be your crutch to action. When the key to your results is getting answers, it will always be easy to find more questions.
