Information vs. Knowledge vs. Wisdom

Aren't they all the same? No. Here are the differences between Information, Knowledge and Wisdom, in hierarchical order by how many people ever achieve it.

Information is stuff you can learn, read, listen to or otherwise know about without active application. You can get information from reading a blog, listening to podcasts, watching things happen, or reading books.

Information is available in abundance. This abundance often slows people from taking action because there is no end to it. People who procrastinate and hesitate can be full of information. Trying to decide which information to use, this person dies deciding. School teaches information.

Knowledge is the things you learn from experience. Doing stuff, messing up, and succeeding all lead to knowledge. The most active people are the most knowledgeable. People to whom we attribute street smarts have knowledge - they learn mostly from experience.

Some information hounds have no knowledge because they've never actually done anything.

Wisdom is taking your combination of information and knowledge, and knowing how and when to apply it - or not. Wisdom knows what information should be ignored at times. Wisdom knows when to speak up and when to be quiet.

Having extensive knowledge or troves of information - or both - does not guarantee wisdom. The gap between information/knowledge and wisdom is one thing: Thinking.
