People come to me in distress sometimes (or at least they pretend to be, presumably thinking that will make me want to help them more. This is not true). They tell me their problems and often end with some version of I don't know what else to do or I'm helpless and lost and have no idea what action to take.
The fact that you're verbalizing powerlessness is a big reason you're powerless and will continue to be. It really is important to use different language and ask a better question.
The next time you're stuck in a situation, don't say I don't know what else I can do or I've tried everything. These statements tell your brain to automatically go on vacation. Instead try saying, how can I control this situation better? Or, what can I do right now to empower myself?
Try it. Say it to yourself. Yes, right now.
See? See how your brain immediately goes to work based on the questions you feed it?
You've given yourself control now. Use it.
