How To Create Content When You're Feeling Uninspired

One day, I was not inspired much. Ideas weren't popping up fast enough. I wasn't particularly excited about creating anything.

I recorded 8 podcast episodes and 6 videos that afternoon.

Not because I found a spark. And not because I was running out of content to publish. No one was waiting for me to get it done.

It's because I know that to get to the "spark" days, I have to get through the "not there" days and make something anyway.

For me, this is a discipline I've developed over years of dragging myself to gyms, keyboards and tripods. It's the same discipline that I help people with now.

So, what can you do on those days to get going? And what if you're not doing a podcast though? What about for a salesperson? Or a boyfriend?

Start doing it. You'll feel more like it when you're in it. This is called professionalism. Professionalism is something you display before you're being paid for your work. Not after. Another word for this habit is discipline.

Talk to someone. It's hard to create for an audience when you don't feel like talking to them. So stop talking to them and talk to me. Or her. Or him. Have a one-on-one conversation with someone in your content. It will come off much more personally. And you'll get a much better response from your audience because of it.

Get inspiring elements around you. Videos. Music. Pictures. Quotes. Books. People. Being in an environment of inspiration keeps your cup filled, so to speak. You can pour into your work more often if your cup is filled up more often. Start collecting your inspirations and this won't be much of a problem.

Remember that you need to pay the bills. Content keeps eyes on you. People who will buy from you, or spread the word about you. People who need to hear from you, even when you think it sounds like shit. You never know how the right word can affect someone. And you don't get to choose what that word is or how it will affect her.
