Great Expectations: Try Expecting Your Success Instead of Hoping For It

I had a friend who was the best player on a bad basketball team, and I once asked him if his team would win their next game.

"I hope."

"Hope is not a strategy to win! You're the best player -- if all you can do is hope, what do you think your weak-ass teammates are doing?"

It takes the same amount of energy to expect your success. Expecting good things to happen doesn't guarantee them, but it puts your subconscious in position to consider how to make it happen. Compare that mind state to a hopeful one, which has to balance the "might-happen” with the “might-not-be-completely powerless” circumstances.

What do you expect?
