When you have a team around you, one of your most important jobs is empowering them. Put them in a position to perform at a higher level than their abilities suggest -- which, in turn, increases their abilities.
Give people roles that cause them to go just a bit higher than usual. Thrust a responsibility on someone unexpectedly and force them to respond. Give someone else a tough job that you would usually do -- not to beg off of your own work, but to show them that you believe they can get things done.
Place a bet on one of your people, making a public show of the trust that exists.
Empowering the people around you makes them grow, makes each individual stronger. At the same time, when they see you believing in them, they not only believe more in themselves, but their trust for you grows that much deeper.
And you never know when you may need it.
