Confidence is a Habit

Habit (noun): a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up.

Confidence (noun): the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust.

I've done two TED Talks on Confidence. Written a book about it. I have an online course coming and more books. Yet, no matter how many times you watch the videos, highlight the book or take the courses, confidence is not something that you get. You don't buy it or watch or read your way to confidence.

Confidence is something you do. You act your way to confidence.

Read the definition of the word "habit" up there. A tendency or practice. Confidence is something that, like motivation and bathing, must be renewed regularly. You need to constantly give yourself reasons to be confident. One good reason is because you just did something that belies confidence. In your mind, you have to remember to remember, as they say.

Done enough, it becomes a habit.

Becoming a habit does not mean you stop doing the things you were doing before. Confidence as a habit simply means you're doing it without thinking about it. From there, the habit becomes part of your character. Then your destiny.

Confidence becomes not what people know you for (something you do), but what people know you as (who you are).

Habits tend to have that effect.
