Book Review: The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership by John C. Maxwell

"The higher you want to climb, the more you need leadership. The greater the impact you want to make, the greater your influence needs to be. Whatever you will accomplish is restricted by your ability to lead others."

I actually read this book back in the late 90s or early 2000s in the pre-digital era for books. Since I knew this was a very polar book -- it has sold over a million copies -- and saw someone at Toastmasters use it as a prop for a speech a month or two ago, I decided to buy the iBooks version and read it again.

Maxwell lays it out just as the title says, explaining what he sees as all of the principles of leadership. He explains what each is (always illustrated by a true story), why it matters, and uses clever analogies to drive his pints home. Each chapter ends with a self-evaluation for the reader to gage his or her own level of leadership in that particular area (there's also a full evaluation at the end of the book -- this is the revised, updated version Maxwell released around 2006).

The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership is a classic book that is the basic user guide for being a leader. Anyone in or aiming for a leadership position doesn't need to be sold on the idea of investing in this book. So I'll leave it at that.
