A gentleman emailed me a week or two ago, asking about overseas basketball agents.
The context was that he was asking for his son. The writer mentioned in passing that he and his son were exploring “options for after high school.”
That small piece of information led to me, in addition to answering his agent question, adding something else about his son.
Read my short reply message below.

Hi XXXX,
As I share in my articles, overseas ball is mostly unregulated.
Since you mentioned your son here, he should be looking to play college ball rather than overseas. I'm sure he has his reasons, but overseas ball is not as easy as it looks, and it's nothing like HS ball (ie, talent alone will not get you on the court).
College will allow him to grow as a player and person and develop the hoop and people skills he'll need in the professional world, especially if his career takes him abroad. HS is the last place in the basketball world where talent alone is enough, and college is a great place to learn that amongst others who are just as good and the same age.
Also keeping in mind that a hoops career is over by 30 for most players, 40 for those who are lucky, and he will need other tools for life.
Good luck,
