My last (of 3) college coach kicked me off the team during practice one day. I knew I was better than everyone in that gym that I was walking out of. But still, I was stuck with no way of proving it.
So I spent the next 10 years proving it by making the pros, something that none of those guy had done.
When it comes to your chief aims in life, the most important successes, the game doesn’t have a clock. Yes, you want to have a sense of urgency to get things done and all of that. But, there is not a point when you quit when the goal is important enough to you. The key is finding that important-enough goal. And a real enough reason to turn the clock face-down.
