As a pro athlete, I’d often be asked by other athletes if they could train with me. People still ask to this day, not knowing that I no longer play basketball.
Doesn’t matter, because my answer was always the same: No.
I never liked workout out with other people. They either lived to slowly for my liking, or wanted to do their workout and not mine. Too many of them wanted to talk too much. Not enough of them were
Good enough that I gained anything from their presence. Most of the requests were charity cases — an amateur player wanting to stand next to a pro. I’d be essentially making myself worse.
Fuck that, No. I was perfectly fine holding myself accountable most of the time.
Some people though, aren’t quite like me. Some people do better — a lot better — when there’s a partner present. Some people do a lot better — meaning, they do more than nothing — when there’s some form of accountability attached to their work.
But we can’t always depend on that, unless we’re paying for it. How do we hold ourselves accountable when no one else is? Is it even possible?
