People are a resource. If you’ve ever been on the wrong end of what we call “politics” or the right end of what we call “networking,” you know this.

The right people can get you into places. Get things done. Connect you to more “right” people when you’ve built a relationship. Protect you when times are tough or there’s a formidable opponent challenging you. You need the right people around you if the plan is to go far.
