I’m gonna apply at Foot Locker every week until they hire me.
We all laughed at the idea, and the feigned ambition my friend was hinting at. We were all 16 or 17 years old, trying to get jobs for the summer. Of course, we wanted the most prestigious and seemingly-easy job any male from our neighborhood could get: At a sneaker store.
It seemed easy enough – grab a few boxes from the back, ring up customers, and exploit the employee discount. Who couldn’t do that? Who wouldn’t want to?
Well, all of us could and all of us wanted to. And apparently, so did every other male from everywhere else. None of us worked at Foot Locker that summer. None of us ever got hired at Foot Locker, in fact, save for my 8-month stint there after college (when it didn’t seem as cool, at 22, than it had at 16). By then, the job I actually wanted was somewhere overseas, playing basketball.
I did end up getting a few of those. But I’d be lying if I said I was ever in control of the jobs.
Today, you’ll learn how to get any job you want. There are no restrictions to it, whether that be the industry, position, salary, or anything else.
Get ready for work.
