Award is a prize or other mark of recognition given in honor of an achievement, while trophy is a cup or decorative object awarded as a prize for a victory or success. In today's class, I will clarify the distinctions between these two words and highlight their unique meanings.
Show notes:
[07:43]#1 Awards, in today's context, are subjective, chosen by humans who have feelings, biases, emotions, opinions, and they are political by nature.
[25:24]#2 Trophies, on the other hand, are objective, based on clear, measurable results, and they go to the best performers as measured by clear standards and measurable outcomes.
[32:16]#3 I'm more of a trophy guy than awards because those I beat didn't have the same chance to win in the same field.
