“Your network is your net worth.”

You’ve heard that. Is it really true? Yes and no.

Yes, because the people you know can do things for you that you can’t do for yourself. Other people can be where you’re not. Your network can vote you into office or fund your Kickstarter campaign.

No, because knowing people will not cover up your lack of skills, ability to relate to people or generally negative attitude.

Maybe you don’t like people. You don’t like talking with folks you don’t know. You hate small talk. You have your circle and you keep it small and don’t want to let anyone in. That’s cool. Understand there’s a limit to how far you can go in life when you limit how many people you know and who know you.
